The word on the street with some gamers is that the PS4 console was initially planned for a 2010 release date. However with the recent launch of the new PS3 Slim this release date is looking highly unlikely. In fact Sony had a similar strategy with the Playstation 2 console before the PS3 was released.

First, Sony released the standard size PS2 console in 1999 followed just over 4 years later by the PS2 Slim console. Then in 2006 they released the current PS3 console. Now we are seeing the first stages of the Playstation 3 slim being launched nearly 4 years after the original PS3 was introduced, see a pattern yet? So if the same thing happens again the Sony PS4 console is probably going to be another couple of years before launched in 2011 or 2012.

Also, if history repeats itself, demand will be so high for the PS4 games console that pre-orders will far outway the amount of consoles available. This happened with previous playsation models and in fact led to many people simply pre ordering 3 or 4 consoles in order to re-sell them on Ebay. So if you want a hot tip as soon as you see PS4 consoles being advertised for pre order try and be one of the first to buy, otherwise you may find yourself at the back of a very long queue.
